I used to apply statistical methods in studying climatic phenomena, but I found AI and expert system approach very interesting in analysis and prediction of short-term climatic changes. Project description: Since 1994, we've been developing (with Dr. Jim Martin who consults me about AI side of the project) so called Climatic Expert System for the North Atlantic (CESNA). The system is designed to make predictions for mean seasonal climatic characteristics one year in advance. The current version of the system can make predictions for eastern North America, the North Atlantic and adjacent Arctic Seas and parts of Europe. The prototype of CESNA has been developed with the help of VP-Expert system development tool, but we are going to try some other ES shells (maybe GURU; any suggestions are welcome). More information about the system can be found at its homepage: http://www.cs.colorado.edu/~sergei/cesna.html ============================================================================ Sergei Rodionov Computer Science Department tel.: +1 303 673 9598 Engineering Center, ECOT 7-15 fax : +1 303 492 2844 Campus Box 430 e-mail: sergei@cs.colorado.edu University of Colorado http://www.cs.colorado.edu/~sergei/Home.html Boulder, CO 80309-0430, USA ============================================================================
