Dating Chicks: Calibration and Discrimination in a Nonlinear Multivariate Hierarchical Growth Model

Data on the growth of tern chicks are analyzed to gauge the feasibility of estimating the age of a chick using easily-obtained body measurements. The possible existence of a separate group of “slow-growing” chicks is investigated.
