The Attraction of Engineering

In Ireland, over the past twenty years, women have made significant gains as students and professionals in non-traditional career paths such as commerce, medicine and law. Yet this is not the case for the engineering profession. Women are under-represented in engineering degrees and careers.

This research aims to assess the gender-related differences in ‘attraction’ to engineering as a career. It includes a national survey in Ireland targeted at final year students in secondary schools. In this talk, I present the sample design and my proposed analysis of the data.
