This paper describes our approach to evaluation of object-oriented designs. It is based on work introducing object-orientation to industry groups, and is motivated by our observations about the needs for design evaluation in industry. We argue that design evaluation is an important but undervalued part of software development. We discuss possible techniques for both summative and formative design evaluation, and present our experience with them.
