Day 1 (Tuesday 6 July)

An introduction to the Statistical models underlying the analysis of longitudinal data.

Date:	Tuesday 6 July, 10-4pm (registration from 9:30)
Location:	Hunter Building, room HU323 Victoria University of Wellington
Content:	The workshop will cover generalised linear models, generalised linear mixed models (fixed and random effects models), survival analysis, applications to social science and econometrics. This workshop will assume prior knowledge of standard multiple regression. Some knowledge of generalized linear models (in particular logistic and/or Poisson regression) would be advantageous. This workshop is designed as preparation for the SAS training course on Days 2 and 3.

Day 2 and 3 (Wednesday 7 July and Thursday 8 July)

SAS Training Course on Longitudinal Data Analysis with Discrete and Continuous Responses.

Date:	Wednesday / Thursday 7-8 July, 9-5pm
Location:	ACE Training Room 1st Floor The Novell Building 89 The Terrace, Wellington
Content:	This course focuses on methods to analyse longitudinal data with unequally spaced repeated measurements. After completing this course you should be able to: fit linear mixed models using the MIXED procedure fit longitudinal models with generalised estimating equations (GEE) using the GENMOD procedure perform exploratory data analysis on longitudinal data create sample variograms to select the appropriate covariance structure for the linear mixed model. This workshop will assume prior knowledge of base SAS procedures and programming. Attendees should also be familiar with the use of PROC GLM and/or REG (or have experience of similar software). The statistical development will follow on directly from Day 1.

Costs:	$1000 per person for Days 2 and 3. $750 for academics.
Notes:	Course notes will be provided Spaces are limited on Days 2 and 3. The training room holds 25 computers. If more than 25 students enrol some will have to share (to a maximum of 2 people per machine). See notes below on how to register.

Statistics New Zealand Workshop

Immediately preceding the 3-day workshop Statistics New Zealand is hosting a separate 1-day workshop on Monday 5 July 2004 on "Managing and analysing longitudinal data for research purposes" presented by Stephen Jenkins (Essex University) with general discussion and contributed talks.

The programme for this workshop includes discussion of possibilities for analysis, the Statistics New Zealand Introduction to the Survey of Family, Income and Employment (SoFIE), generic data (re)organisation and management, 'Traps for the unwary' - lessons from others experiences in longitudinal data analysis

There is no cost for the Statistics New Zealand workshop, which is sponsored by SPEaR and Motu Economic and Public Policy Research Trust.
